  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies®
  •  or 6 cups Cocoa Rice Krispies®
  • 1 package (6 oz., 1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips

1. Place corn syrup and sugar into 3-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to boil. Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter. Mix well. Add KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well coated. Press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Set aside.

2. Melt chocolate and butterscotch chips together in 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. Spread evenly over cereal mixture. Let stand until firm. Cut into 2 x 1-inch bars when cool.

I never really liked Rice Krispies treats (as an adult). Then There ccame a time when we didn't have any margarine, just butter. I was hooked!!! Then a friend brought over some scotcharoos and well...The rest is still a great love for rice krispies made as scotcheroos.

1. My recipe for Scotcheroos is a very old magazine clipping, and it calls for 1 10oz. bag of regular or mini marshmallows instead of the corn syrup and sugar. The 6 cups of Rice Krispies is replaced with 5 cups of cereal, and 1 cup of peanuts; I usually use low salt dry roasted. I've used both semi sweet chocolate and milk chocolate morsels with great results. I take these to potlucks and parties whenever I don't have time to bake, or when it's too hot to turn the oven on. They always disappear quickly!

2. I made the Scotcheroos before and somr people thought that the butterscotch made it to Rich and sweet. Last night made them and instead of the 1 cu pbuttercotch morsels I replaced it with 1 cup of peanut Butter Chips. And it was a bigger hit. Just thought I would share that If you don't like Buttercotch replace with peanut butter!

3. Our family loves these, once when out of corn syrup we tried melting the peanut butter and butterscotch chips and mixing those with the cereal. They were great!!

6. these are the all time favorite from my childhood and have continued to be for my kids and for everyone else in our family. these scotcharoos are the special treat for any occasion. we take them with us even when we all go camping, that includes my mom,sister,kids,grandkids and great grandkids!!

7. Because the Scotcheroos use corn syrup, sweetened chocolate, sweetened butterscotch, and sweetened peanutbutter, I tried cutting the sugar to 1/2 cup. It was still extremely sweet. I cut the sugar out altogether the last time and this treat is still extrememly (deliciously) sweet. The cup of sugar is excess and not needed.

8. This is something my mom always made for me on Christmas but, I couldn't find te recpe on here. It's rice krispie treats with peppermint candies in it..You crush up the candies really small and add then when you melted the marshmallows and add the cereal. It's divine..

11. These are a favorite childhood memory from the late 60's and early 70's. Seems like the original recipe had the chocolate layer sandwiched between the cereal mix, rather than topping it. That's the way I remember it, so that's the way I'm going to try it!
